I just downloaded the latest OpenOffice (v. 2.0.4) onto my iBook (not
sure of the OS version - but it was purchased Nov. 2005, and I have kept

apple-menu: about this mac -> this will show you the correct version.

current with updates) but it required X11 to run. However, when I tried to download X11 and install in on the HD the system refused, saying that
I had a newer version installed already.

please have a look:

Thank you. The "Howto" answers many question before they will occur.

The issue with broken fonts seems to be gone by upgrading the X11- program to Version 1.1.3

I did download both packages with the Safari browser which (by reading
the web sit comments) may be causing this behavior?

To be shure whether the download is correct,
please check the md5 sum of your download

(in the application "terminal" type "md5" and then a blank and then drag the downloaded dmg - file into the terminal-window; the absolute path will be displayed - then hit "return". Result (after a while) is a special string. This is the md5-sum)

I am relatively clueless on a Mac, having used PCs most of my life.

no problem -
convergence is only a question of time.

Viele Grüße

Christopher Frank
