I presently own a mac. am interested in learning how to use word, excel etc. Will this program work for me.. step by step??? or am I expected to just jump right in? I am a novice!
Dear Rosalie Word and Excel are the names used for word processing and spreadsheet programs by Microsoft Office. With the Writer and Calc components of openOffice.org you can do the same thing -if not more- than with their counterparts. OOo is free to use and there is a group of users and developers volunteering to help you through this users message list. take a look at the OpenOffice.org website http://www.openoffice.org/ and particularly at the website porting for Mac http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/ which mac are you using? A PowerPC or an Intel? It's a different download (and with Intel you better update to the newest (1.1.3) version of X11, the program you'll need to run OOo on a Mac. OOo comes with a very complete Help function and at the site you'll find lots of Getting Started Guides and more complete documentation on how to make the most of your OpenOffice suite. If you're not native English speaker, there's very likely a users group in your language too (click on Native Language on the OOo home page). good luck -- Guy using english OOo 2.0.4 on an iMac Panther and on a Powerbook Tiger PPC --please reply only to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Dodoes can't afford to have headaches
