Hi,
Am using OOo (2.0.4) as installed with Ubuntu 6.10.
My problem is with the fonts - namely that they are not very good
compared
to other versions of OOo (ie MS XP).
As you probably know, this is something that has cropped up a lot on the
Ubuntu forums.
Do you have any idea if/when a patch will be supplied, or if not, how the
problem can be fixed.
You'll need to summarise what the problem is on Ubuntu since I would
guess that most people here don't read Ubuntu forums.
It is well known that OOo doesn't allow use of Open Type fonts yet even
though other applications can. If this is the problem then there is
already an RFE open in OOo IssueZilla for it.
Otherwise, I run OOo on serveral versions of RedHat and Fedora linux and
generally, to my untrained eye, I find that the fonts appear just as
nice, and often nicer, than on Windows systems, including XP. But this
depends on several factors to vary between systems, and aren't
necessarily related to OOo. How do your fonts look in other applications
on Ubuntu?
I assume that Ubuntu uses the same font rendering engine as
Fedora/RedHat (i.e. FreeType). You may also need to adjust your system's
font rendering - look for a Font Preferences setup utility on your
system - which will allow you to choose the best rendering for your
display. You should be able to adjust the level of antialiasing as well
as subpixel smoothing generally for your desktop and applications.
If it's a problem with the choice or availability of fonts on Ubuntu,
then you can find and install True Type fonts from a number of sources
on the web, including Microsoft AFAIK.
