This is my first message to the OpenOffice world,

Welcome!

with that said I'll jump
right into my problem. First, I work on a mainframe (oh no) and I was
able to install z/VM (very similar to vmware) on a IFL. Second, I
installed SLES 9 on z/VM with the idea of installing OpenOffice.

It may also be worthwhile asking the question in the z/VM and Suse communities. Few people here would be familiar with SLES, and even fewer with z/VM. It's always interesting to hear of OpenOffice.org being used in interesting places!

When I
tried to rpm -Uvh *rpm I received the following the message for every rpm:

package openoffice.org-core08-2.0.4-5 is intended for a i586 architecture

I take it that OpenOffice is looking for a specific chip set of i586.
Anybody have any ideas on how to circumvent this?

Whose rpm's are they? OpenOffice.org's or Suse's?

Is it possible to install OpenOffice.org using Yast or Suse's package management system? SLED comes with OpenOffice.org preinstalled. If SLES doesn't, then I imagine Novell have given you an easy way to install it using their own tools.

Adrian
