I have been working on a graphic watermark. I inquired earlier
about the means to do this, and was able to place the graphic in a

However, the matter of transparency is still a problem. I did go
into use Open Office Help under "transparency", but when I try and
bring up Format - Area, the Area is located under the subheading
Object and the feature does not engage, it remains inaccessible.
By this I mean, rather than showing black to show it is active, it
remains unhighlighted. Can this Transparency feature only be used
in certain circumstances, or am I missing part of the program that
generates this feature. To the best of my knowledge the downloads
have been completed with no problem.
Click the graphic to highlight it. (You should see 8 little green
squares surrounding it.) If the Picture toolbar does not open, use
View > Toolbars > Picture to open it. You should see one drop down
list which includes Default, Gray scale, Black/White, and Watermark.
Select Watermark if it is not already selected. Then adjust the
transparency % which is probably at 0%. Try around 30% as a starter.
Then adjust the transparency higher or lower to meet your needs.
