The problem of this issue: *every* text file is a "delimited" file. It is (nearly?) impossible to differentiate between a "delimited" and a "normal" text file. So the result would be that Calc opened nearly every text file. In this case I think the current default (Writer) overall is the better one. I know that this is a recurring problem and I'm thinking about it since years. A perfect solution doesn't seem to come up. As a first improvement meanwhile you can at least use "Open with Calc" from the context menu of your desktop to open a file with Calc. The same is - as I already wrote - opening the file with "scalc.exe filename".
