     View > Master >Slide Master will allow you to edit a Master Page.
May I suggest you download the "Getting Started with Impress" chapter 
of the Getting Started Guide. It is available at
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors2/. It contains 
instructions and illustrations for using Impress for the first time.
     Please also note the other documents that are also available on 
that web page. You might need one of them later for something else.
