Hi folks: I need some help with Open Office Writer (version 2.0.2). I am running Linux (Mepis distribution 6.0). I bought the following 4 Adobe Garamond fonts (Windows PostScript) from Linotype: (1) Regular, (2) Italic, (3) Bold, and (4) Regular Expert. Numbers 1, 2, and 3 came in a Family folder and in a Single folder. In other words, I got 2 sets of those 3 fonts. The fourth font (Regular Expert) came only in the Family folder. I installed all 4 fonts into Scribus without any problems, but installing them into OOo's Writer has not worked. I have tried several times, and nothing has worked. Today I again used Spadmin to install them. The name Adobe Garamond appears in Writer's font menu, but when I type text, it appears in Bitstream Vera Sans font. I even uninstalled all 4 fonts and then installed only one font (the "Regular" font). That too did not work. Writer's Tools menu has an Options entry. One option for OpenOffice.org (under fonts) is a replacement table, which is empty. Each of the 5 items under Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org Writer > Basic Fonts (Western) is set to Adobe Garamond.
Spadmin puts the font files in this folder: /home/bb/.openoffice.org2/user/fonts. Writer recognizes the font files' existence; otherwise, its font menu would not show "Adobe Garamond." Nothing is wrong with the font files for they work perfectly in Scribus. Here are my questions: 1. Have you any idea what might be causing this problem? 2. How would you install these 4 fonts into Writer to achieve this end result: (1) The family name in the font menu for the Regular, Italic, and Bold fonts, and (2) the Expert set on a separate line in Writer's font menu; otherwise the set's characters will be inaccessible.
