Naomi I'd like to piggyback on your question, because I am guessing my
problem is related...
I cannot get variables to work with conditional text at all. Your method
might also work for me? I am curious what you CAN get to work?
My problem:
combine multiple manuals into one master-child doc
trying to use conditional text (paragraph of text)
my steps:
open Insert->fields
choose variables
set variable, add name, add value, choose "text" format, insert
choose functions
add varname EQ mytext, add then and else text, insert
I get:
the else text, or nothing
the variable wont let me use the check-mark button
close dialog, reopne dialog conditional text disappears from re-opened
dialog, yet gray page mark remains on page
Anyone successfully using these features?
thanks
John

Hi all,
I've trawled through the archives for a few pages, but didn't find
this exact issue in a fairly recent build.
Has anyone else had trouble using hidden paragraphs in master
documents? ....
* I discovered that while hidden paragraphs based on variables are
dodgy, hidden paragraphs based on user fields actually WORK! So
this seems like a possible workaround for anyone suffering from
similar problems. My only issue is, it seems impossible to refer
to the value of a user field. Grrr.
