This is a known problem. QA has stated that Impress does not yet
work in 2.1.0 on iMacs.

Hello fellow Mac-ers
Same problem here with OOo 2.1 Impress on an Intel iMac with OS X 10.4.8:
I open an existing pps from M$ft, modify some slides, and save again as an
odp. No problem.
When I try to save as ppt, OOo crashes.
