Try Version 2.1
I have had no problems with 2.1 with Windows 98se/ Win2000pro/XP
It may have something to do with your computer itself.

Hi,
I am using open office version 2.0.4. on Windows98FE. When I try to save a
document in Microsoft format the whole computer crashes and will not respond
to even the ctl-alt-del keys and has to be shut down by using the off button
on the computer. The error report tool does not seem to start even if I
double click on crashrep.exe
