James,
At some point, it will become more valuable to have your time than
money and you will buy more memory.
I think I'm at that point now :)
Guess memory is the only solution; and since you haven't commented on
the Fonts, I guess, that is ok.
Thanks for your reply.
Note that you can improve loading and saving times considerably by
adding a firewire external hard drive
to the Mac mini. The internal hard drive is a 2.5 inch dive and is
slower than the standard 3.5 inch drives
used in full sized desktop machines. An external drive will also allow
you to have a lot more space for
programs and documents and music, etc.
The Mac mini is a nice machine, and is greatly improved by more memory
and an external hard disk drive

In addition to all that's been said, just let me add that 256MB is
indeed too little to efficiently run Tiger, and when you add a slow HD
and little free space, you're going to have problems. BTW, this isn't
just a Mac problem. A faster hard drive will also dramatically speed up
your computer for HD intensive operation. Running out of RAM is a VERY
intensive HD situation.
You might consider looking into the fonts question, though I can't help
much with it. I recall under Panther and earlier, there was some issue
with having lots of system fonts. Check out the Mac support pages.
