Open Office was recommeded to me. My computer would not open any

you advise me, please?
OpenOffice (OO) can open Powerpoint presentations (well, most anyway). Assuming you are using Windows there are three possibilities:

1. When you install OO, tell it to set itself as the defualt for opening Microsoft Office documents; this includes Powerpoint. The installation process offers this as an option.

2. After installing OO, change the File Associations (see Windows Help) so that OO becomes the default.

3. Right click a presentation (or other MS Ofice document) and tell Windows to "Open With" OO; if OO isn't in the list of suggestions, browse for it ("soffice.exe" in whichever folder you installed OO). At this point you can also tick the box labelled "Always use this program for this type of file" in which case you have achieved #2 by a different route.

If you do #1 or #2 then opening is a question of double clicking the file as usual. If you do #3 then you need to do it *every time* you want to open a document with OO.

OO can also save documents in Microsoft format; choose Save As from the File menu and select the relevant MS format from the list of possibilities.
