I use KDE as my desktop, and K Menu has Office as a folder.
K Menu > Office opens a menu with the OOo applications
(Wordprocessors, Calc, Impress, and Draw.) Clicking Wordprocessors
opens OOo 2.1 MATH and OOo 2.1 Writer. Clicking any of these
applications starts OOo 2.1. If you use Gnome, you should have a
similar menu to K Menu with similar entries.
Right clicking on one of these applications should open a context
menu with a choice to create an icon on the Desktop.
