The applied style of a paragraph is shown in the toolbar. You only need
to put the cursor in the specific paragraph.

Consistent styling is something the author must do himself. If you want
them the follow a certain pattern then you can define this pattern in
the styles. For example if you want a Header1 to be followed by Text1
and then by Text2, you just put it in the definition of the style.

If you want to learn more about styles and the way OO is handling them
take a look on this site:

chapter 13 of the OO-guide or chapters 6 and 7 of the Writer-guide

Hello Arnold,

I agree with you that the author should be responsible for the consistency
of the documents and management of the styles, but I find myself often
editing documents that I did not write or that I wrote in different stages.
Also, sometimes I find out empty paragraphs that are formatted with, say
Heading x style which mess up the outline numbering but that are difficult
to spot because they are empty.

In summary all I want to say is that I also find this feature quite useful
and if someone is going to create a request for it, I will give it my 2
votes.

Cheers,

Michele

Look at issue 3395 and see if that is in your line of thinking. Look at the images that I uploaded as examples in a way of a compromise.
