After hours of reading and google searching I managed to
"insert/object/plug-in", select an swf file (after I figured out that you have
to enable mozilla, install firefox, and then install the firefox flash
plug-in", and have it import on to a slide in OO Impress 2.1. The swf plays on
screen while I am in a mode for editing slides, but when I click "slide show"
the movie is no longer there (or playing), instead there is a large "plug-in"
pink-ish icon, about the same size as the movie would be. This is very strange.
I would like to make the switch to OO as I am a fan of open source, but adding
swf files is key to my presentations (which I must give professionally) and
doing so is trivial and 100% dependable in powerpoint. Please help me make the
switch to OO, help me get the swf objects to play in "slide show" mode.

I have installed the jmf.jar in java/classpath.

My platform is win2k (necessary for work).

Thanks
