Hi Hank, I think that your problems are mainly because the values are sen as strings rather than numbers. In a new spreadsheet try to input the following in the same column : "the color", "of money", "the green", "or brown" and you should see that as you input "the green" Calc will offer you "the color" but you can continue typing to see your own values correctly. Notice that you will see something similar when you start typing "or brown". OpenOffice.org may not be recognising the columns as numeric columns because the formatting started from Office95.
