I have just checked and yes Open Office will open PowerPoint.

If you are receiving these as e-mails then save the attachment and the use
open office to open the files.

If you are receiving these as CD's DVD's or other memory then use open
office to look at that disc and open the file.

Thanks, Rob, for your very prompt answer.  I found them with obvious 
ease.  My next question is:  Many friends send me PowerPoint 
presentations with gorgeous photos and the like.  Can OpenOffice open 
these at all?  If so, how do I do that?
