2007/1/23, Dick Daniel <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
I downloaded OpenOffice 2.1 for Mac OS X and received the message that I would need to install X11. I then downloaded X11 and then received a message that "You cannot install X11 on this volume. Newer software already exists on your computer". Please advise me how to install OpenOffice at this point. Also please let me know if I will be able to transfer all my database from Appleworks to this software. Thank you, Phillip Daniel
Phillip The X11 you downloaded (probably from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/x11formacosx.html) clearly states that it is for Panther (Mac OSX10.3), while you have Tiger (10.4). The X11 version you need sits on your Tiger install CD or DVD (X11User.pkg). See the documentation on the Mac porting site http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/ Appleworks is a bit of a dead end I'm afraid, not recognized in any other program (save maybe Mac's Pages...). You might save your AW files as Ascii and import them that way in OpenOffice.org. The fields are then separated by tabs. You can get more info on importing files in OOo Base on the site http://dba.openoffice.org/ good luck -- Guy using dutch OOo 2.1 RC 2 on a iMac Intel DualCore Tiger and dutch OOo 2.1 RC 1 on a G4 PPC Powerbook Tiger -- please reply only to [email protected] -- Dodoes can't afford to have headaches
