Hi Jennifer The best way to interface between these two applications is to use the MS Office formats. So you save files from Microsoft works and Open Office in Word (.doc) or Excel (.xls format) and both Microsoft Works and Open Office can read them.
However the best way forward would be to ask if you can install Open Office on your work computer as it is free. I use open office at home and wanted to know if it is compatible with Microsoft Works 97, so I could open and view documents at work. Thank you for your time.
