Robert:

FIrst, sorry to see you leave the Apple community as if you are
running MacOSX 10.3 or higher there is an OpenOffice.org version
for that OS.

Second, Sadly there is no program that I know of that will read
the Appleworks files on a PC. You will have to either save the files
as plain text or as a Rich Text Format document. OpenOffice.org
will read either. If Appleworks has the capability to save a
Microsoft Office Document (.doc) format, OpenOffice.org can also
read these files, but there are functions in the .doc format that are
protected by patent and OpenOffice.org cannot duplicate them.
Fortunately these are few.

Lastly, the [email protected] address is to a mailing list, staffed
by volunteers, of which I am one of many. Please do not reply directly
to me about OpenOffice.org program issues as I may not be able to
help with them (my knowledge of use of OpenOffice.org on WindowsXP
is limited) and others will miss the opportunity to help you.
