And, in addition to what Arnold Huzen has already said, if you are looking for 
the nth root of a number (which is what you write - you want the cube root of 
27, which is 3), your notation ( 27 ^ (-3) ) is incorrect: you should be 
doing (27 ^ ( 1/3)), which will get you the right answer of 3. 

In general, if you have the number in A1, and the nth root you require in B1, 
then, your formula should look like "=A1 ^ (1/B1)".
