Thanks for your suggestion which worked beautifully. I was then able to untick "use system font" in the OpenOffice "options".
I'm glad to hear it worked for you.
In my version of OO (v.2.0.3) the options were under the "tools" menu.
That's right - I wasn't very clear. Once you've selected Tools / Options, you'll find the setting under View.
Hopefully this annoying problem will not reappear. The expression "its all Greek to me" has now taken on a special meaning for me. Many thanks to you guys for doing this splendid Open Source work
