Hi hi folks,
A while back I ordered a CD for Open Office [it was long enough
ago that the CD sent was Open Office 1.1] - and when I did get it, I
tried to install it on my Dell laptop. The laptop would not recognize
the CD.
[I shrugged and set the disc aside] So I got another Dell laptop
[an inspiron 5150] and tried again. Again the laptop would not
recognize the CD.
So I am trying to download Open Office now - since I am very
annoyed with finding there is an expiry date on my Word 97 and it is
fouling up on me. HOWEVER I am on dial-up [hence the reason I wanted
the CD in the first place] - and the download I am attempting is 94 megs!
Is there any way you can either [a] make a CD that Dells will
acknowledge? or - [b] make a more compact bare-bones program so that
Luddites like me who are using dial-up can download a working program in
something less than a day?
thanks,
Barbara

Chances are that your particular CD was corrupted somehow. If you can
get a friend to download it and burn a CD that would probably be
quickest -- if not, I'd suggest you order another CD.
It's certainly worth it -- I've been using OOo for four years now, and
have seen no reason to go back to MS Office.
