The "latest" is 2.2.x which, according to the openoffice website, does not list
W98 as a compatible OS.

I don't know what website you are looking at, but www.openoffice.org
(the official website) clearly states that 2.1 is the latest stable
version :
"OpenOffice.org 2.1 is recommended for all users, as it represents a
significant improvement over all previous versions"

There are of course development builds which are numbered 2.2 and can
be found here, however these are not recommended for most users :
http://download.openoffice.org/680/

And I already know that 2.0.x is compatible with 98. This is the one that I want. But
you would know this if you had read my email. As my previous email stated "I can't
find a way to do this (download 2.0.x) from your (openoffice) website." It is
simply not available any longer only 2.2.x is.

So, is there a way to access 2.0.x from the open office website?

I think the page
(http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/source/sys_reqs_20.html) hasn't
been updated with the release of 2.1 ... As other posters have advised
you, 2.1 (the latest version) should run fine on win98, dependant on
the caveats noted by other posters.

ps, please don't mail me directly... use the list.
