That should work - simply give your Base project a filename, then in the
Mail Merge Wizard, use whatever document you want (current or template or
??) for the letter form, click next to select address block, then click
"Add" and select Base file type and find your newly created Base filename,
select it and the fields you need.. and you should be good to go ; -)

Just did that! I'm very new to Base, so it took me a bit to figure it
out...I made the Query, which works. But I can't figure out how to make
Writer's Mail Merge access the Query information...

I don't know the direct OOS solution, but a quick workaround might be to
create a 'view' or pre-made query
in the database that contains all the info you need and then query it.
Just a thought,
Jim

Subject: [users] Connecting OOo to a mySQL relational database for
addressing an mail merge
Morning folks!
(cross-post to [email protected] and [email protected])
I am having trouble figuring out how to do this properly. We use XRMS for
our CRM, but the only limitation it has is that XRMS does not have an
easy
method of writing letters to a contact that automatically fills in the
contacts data (name, address, etc.) but OOo does if connected to a data
source.
So, I created an ODBC connection to the XRMS mySQL database on my system.
OOo recognizes the connection, and allows me to log in, etc.
The problem is when I go to set up the field maps in the addressing; XRMS
is
a relational mySQL database, and information is stored in various tables
using key fields. For example, to create a full address for a contact, I
need to access 3 different tables in the XRMS database:
TABLE DATA IN TABLE
companies company name
contacts contact's salutation, first name and last name
addresses contact and company addresses
countries countries
So I set up the connection, setup OOo to access the database. But I can
only
seem to pull information from one table at a time, I cannot use
relational
data!!!
How do I get a complete address in OOo using this scenario?
Sincerely,
Andrew Robertson
