Ah, I think I know what's happening.
In KDE when you open the media browser konqueror will display something like:
"media:/"
in the address bar.
The problem is that this is, as James discovered inadvertantly, a protocol
handler in KDE which points it to the /media folder (at least, in Ubuntu).
So james, that's why you're getting the error. If you save
as /media/sdb1/t.odt it should work just fine.
