Yes you can open and save MS office files (.doc, .ppt, .xls) and html with OOo (OpenOffice.org), but OOo does not yet read or write Microsoft's reinvented XML format (OOXML). If you want exchange files between OOo and MS Office you will have to save in MS file formats. With complicated documents there may be some minor formatting alignment differences and VBA macros will not run natively within OOo. Hope this helps.
