I am running OpenOffice 2.1 on a PowerPC Powerbook using Mac OS 10.4.8.

I have used OO for the last three years on this machine. I have run it using XFree86 with TWM (from Fink). For those 3 years I have not had a single problem. Last month I downloaded OpenOffice 2.1and the problems began.

I create a Text Document and make various saves without any problems. Then for no clear reason OpenOffice freezes when I save - I can detect no difference between this save and the others before which created no problems. It is often on an existing document that I reopen to continue working on. Once such a document has had this problem once, it continues to do this every time it is opened and saved - making it unusable.

My first thought was that 2.1 had broken compatibility with Fink's packages, so I removed their XFree86 and installed Apple's X11 and updated it from Apple's updates. The problems continue.

I have turned off 'Emulate three button mouse' and 'Enable keyboard shortcuts under X11', and turned on 'Use system keyboard layout' on the X11 Preferences.
I would greatly appreciate any help...

Roger
