If you want to wipe the hard disk clean, you would use fdisk.exe.
However, that is a rather drastic action to take. You could reformat
the hard drive, but that is also drastic. You should consider
something less drastic to begin with, although replacing Win ME might
be a very good idea. It has never been a quality operating system
even by MS standards.
The first thing you need to do is to check to see if the OOo
download file is corrupt or not. To do this, you need to use
md5sum.exe.
Go to the download page (http://download.openoffice.org/2.1.0/)
and click the Download OpenOffice.org button. Along with the list of
operating systems you can choose, there is a small link for md5sum.
Click that link and follow the instructions you are given. If the
md5sum you get is different from the one listed in the link, you do
have a corrupt download file. You would then need to download the
file again. This time check to see if it is OK before trying to
install it.
