Subject: Ms Outlook counterpart To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi
We envisage installing Linux only on our new IT system - we are a new
startup company with around 5 staff but we will grow fairly fast.
We need a server and 5 users PC's, plus 2 users whom will log in from
anywhere in the world. We need Outlook functionality but prefer not
to do Microsoft, mainly for security considerations.
We were thinking of OpenOffice 2.1 but the diary system cum personal
organiser is still missing.
What is available in the Linux enviro and how do we get it to test?
Thanks for your response.
Kind regards Pieter Louw
An Outlook replacement in the OpenOffice mail list.
I use Linux at work and we have Exchange server (no pop/imap access) and
it is very very slow. There are many different options available and in
a Linux environment, much better. I actually export my mail from
Evolution to use in Thunderbird.
As you state, you don't want to use Microsoft products so here are two
places to start looking.

The one thing you have to think about in Linux over Windows is that most
applications are single function tools. Many of the single functions
tools will work with other tools so it isn't an install one application
for all uses.
Also, look at the version of Linux you are going to use and get on the
Users mail list. A great place to learn and get help from. We use
Fedora as our main Linux version where I work.
