I think the point in this message was missed.

No, there is no Universal Binary version of OpenOffice.org.  To produce
it would take a long time and take the focus of producing a Native version
away.  

There are tested Intel and Power PC versions available for the Mac.  You cannot
use the Power PC version on the Intel platform through Rosetta due to the use
of Java to support some (but by no means all) functions in OpenOffice.org.
