5 days ago, 2 February, I sent the following....
*****
I am using OpenOffice.org v2.1 and want to be able to create Japanese
Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji characters in my predominantly english
based documents. Eventually, as my knowledge of Japanese improves, I
will want to create totally Japanese language documents. My initial
exploration at the Ooo site shows a "Native Language" support that
doesn't seem to address the student whose language knowledge
prohibits the ability to use a gui that is totally japanese.
*****
....since then, I've discovered and installed the MS language bar
with both "English(US)" and "Japanese" available but still no ability
to create kana characters no matter which language choice is selected
no matter whether I'm using MS Notepad or Ooo Writer or any other
text creating utility.
I've gotten no response from my first email to you and still am
clueless as to how to create hiragana, katakana, and kanji characters
in Writer documents. Perhaps its also necessary for you to know that
my current OS is xp pro?
I'm planning to eventually migrate to more FOSS technologies ond
operating systems but for the time being, I need to begin to be able
to create Japanese/English combination documents and hope you can
point me to the references that can allow me to do this.
I'm also a big user of CorelDraw v8 and am vigorously attempting to
be recognized by them in this quest as well but to no avail as yet.
