The concept that free distribution is a good one, and who would want it any
other way. However I find it personally offensive that multi million dollar
companies take advantage of any new initiatives and use them as a hook for
their own products. All to often when they do include free software it is
outdated or common shareware that does nothing to promote the product/s. In
respect of IMP for example who dredge everything free and market it to the
unsuspecting, one would like to imagine that they at least make a donation.
Dick Smith was mentioned as another company that includes OpenOffice in
their software, just as their clone Tandy does. Has anyone had to try and
get tech support or advice from these companies? They are just supermarkets
with staff that have been trained only in cash register operations. Thanks
for the reply. Reinhold.

It is not a case of tolerance. The situation is that the licence under
which OOo (OpenOffice.org) is distributed, allows for it to be sold.
See this page http://www.openoffice.org/license.html for more info.

Assuming that it is in fact the OOo program that they are selling, I
would very much doubt that they have any "deal" with OOo

I know nothing of their activities or standards, but provided they are
not in breach of the OOo licence, then they are not doing anything
illegal in this respect.
