Agreed. Unfortunately my version of FM 5.x is rather old (too expensive to upgrade) and was at first frustrating as heck to learn. But once I understood the concept of the styles and set up my own templates etc it churned out doc after very large doc with seldom a glitch. I only wish that I could easily transfer FM to linux... tried WINE but had no luck. While OOo can indeed be used to create documents/books etc., I tend to use it the same as when I was using MS Word. In a pinch I could turn out a long tech doc in Word, but only if required (pointy haired boss etc) - and used FM for anything that required any real publishing. As for Scribus (mentioned by others in this thread); IMHO it is an excellent replacement for Adobe PageMaker and MS Publisher. It's a bit more power hungry (CPU & memory) than either of those (could be I don't have it set up optimally). Unfortunately neither OOo or Sribus can import FrameMaker, PageMaker, or Publisher files (that I am aware of), so past work has to resort to those original applications. That said, I am a true fan of OOo and use and promote it as much as possible. Haven't used MS Word around here in a very long time, and only keep copies around for customer testing/troubleshooting. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
