Omnipage SE will work with Microsoft Word, because the author of
Omnipage have created the necessary binding to integrate it into Word.
They haven't done this for OpenOffice.
The easiest solution, is to scan, ocr, and save the result to DOC or RTF
format, which both Word and OpenOffice can read.
If you really needed to scan within OpenOffice on a Windows platform,
you, or some enterprising open-source developer, could download
SimpleOCR and create the necessary bindings.

Hello,
I have just downloaded and installed Open Office initially to use Writer
in place of MS Word but to send documents to Word users. In the process
of doing this I need to scan material and insert as OCR for them to
edit. My scanner is bundled with Omnipage SE which works well with Word
but although I have followed Omnipage instructions to associate Writer,
it fails to appear as 'Acquire' in the Writer file menu. Can you offer
any help please, I cannot see anything in FAQ.
I think that you will have to ask Omnipage for more information.
