I do not want to reinstall my OS and wipe my data. Does that have to
happen?
I tried to update from Apple's website to x11, but it told me that I
had a newer version than what I was trying to install.

X11 and Mac OSX 10.4.8 are two completely different things. You
need to install X11 from your Mac OSX install CDs (that came with
your Mac) before you can install OpenOffice.
Full instructions can be found here <http://porting.openoffice.org/
mac/faq/installing/X11.html>
Any problems feel free to post back to this list.
Hope this helps

Open office install on a mac version osX 1.4.8
When I go to download the program, you website tells me to use the
x11 version. When I try to install it, the program says that I have
to install Apple X11 first. I don't want to go to x11, I just would
like to use a version of Open Office that works on X10 v.1.4.8, can
that be done?
