Hmm. I'm full of questions today. OOo 2.1 on WinXP.
Document imported from Word 2000. I've got some paragraphs that extend from slightly outside the left margin, across the page. That is, they came in with some ugliness that they grew while they were in Word. These are resistant to having styles applied. That is, the style name changes, but the paragraphs don't re-organize themselves within the paragraph formatting of the style. When I select one of these paragraphs, the black highlight extends outside the left margin of the page. This is different than the "good" paragraphs. If I select a good, well-behaved paragraph, the edge of the highlight is the same as the edge of the selected text. What's going on? How do I "uncorrupt" or whatever? The document is several hundred pages, so please don't tell me to create a fresh template, pass all the text through Notepad, and start applying styles from scratch. That would be heartbreaking.
