There are 4 columns.  The problem occurs about half way down the first  page  
It may be a page break, because all four columns below move to the  top of 
the next page.  All of the entries are fine from there to the end of  the 
document.
 
Thank you for the advice.  I pulled the file up on my computer, and it  did 
not have this problem which came up on my friend's computer.   I looked at the 
non printing characters feature and the point at which the  problem occurred 
looks no different from the other parts of the document.   In Open Office, the 
complete document is four pages instead of three pages as in  the original 
document.
 
I will have to try it again on His computer to see if it continues to  occur. 
 Dealing with this kind of problem in WordPerfect is so much  simpler.

No there is not a reveal  codes feature as in WordPerfect.
You seemed to have left  out some information. How many columns do 
you have? Do you have the same  problem in each column or only in the 
last column.
One thing you might want to look at are the nonprinting 
characters. This may  tell you something. It is also possible that a 
page break accidentally was  placed at break.
