You need to set windows mail as your default mail application. Go to Internet Options in control panel (or by clicking tools -> internet options in Internet Explorer) and go to the programs section and set it there.

I double clicked the Control Panel but could not find any Windows Mail icon in the categories presented there. So now I don't know why the Outlook box popped up, or how to associate the Writer looking for Windows Mail.
