No, you do not need MS PowerPoint. However, remember that there
are differences between PowerPoint and Impress. Most notably is that
PowerPoint will play an audio file throughout the presentation which
Impress will only play audio files during transitions between slides.
To play an audio file throughout a presentation using Impress
requires a separate audio player running at the same time as Impress.
