I'd like to be open a text document *without* updating any fields in it,
so it looks just as it did when it was saved. This is with Writer 2.1.
I tried opening it read-only, which doesn't make any difference.
I've done some searching and discovered how to turn this off
(Tools,Options,OpenOffice.org
Writer,General,Update,Automatically,Fields) within a particular
document, but that would mean I have to save the document in order for
it to have any effect, and I do not want to change this document.
After a bit more searching I found that there's a setting
(Tools,Options,Load/Save,Load) that prevents user-specific settings
being loaded with a document. This is said to include "Information about
automatic updating for links, field functions and charts" according to
the help.
Even after this, when I load the document, fields get updated, yet when
I open Tools,Options,OpenOffice.org Writer,General,Update with that
document open, update fields automatically is set off. But updates
occurred anyway.
Is there any way to absolutely, positively, prevent Writer updating
fields when opening an existing document?
Graham.
