I have done that and believe me, some users are completely clueless.
Many expect you to be a mind reader or clairvoyant. Others expect you
to be able to do the impossible. One call I had, the user was at home,
with a notebook computer and wanted to use the VPN to connect to the
office network. However she had locked herself out of her computer and
of course couldn't access the VPN. She wanted me to reset her password,
but refused to go back to the office, so that she could log onto the
domain with the new password. She expected me to reset the password on
her computer, even though I had no way to even reach it! I later
checked her tickets for that day and found she had tried the same thing
3 times, before she finally realized she was asking for the impossible.
On another call, the first thing I heard was "I tried what you guys said
and it didn't work". She made no mention of who she was or what the
problem was.
