There were 2 Mac viruses and 1 Linux one over the past year
accourding to CNN's web site, but not sucessfull, like Windows versions.

The Kaperski linux virus? It required the user to chmod it and give it
executable permissions. Even then it could only affect other files in
the same directory. The average user, who doesn't know what chmod is,
would not have been able to run the virus at all.

What I hate is the fact that Microsoft has re-written Office
so that their default file formats are their "open source"
formats that They are making sure it becomes an ISO
International standard so "everyone" must use their format
to do business, plus have a "filter" to read ODT format.
They are calling their open source formats as Vender Neutral,
that is a laugh.

M$ changes the default file format of Office in every release. Also,
they cannot make sure their formats become ISO standards: only ISO
governing bodies can do that.

Microsoft is doing their best to stop Open Source projects
from using their document formats and creating problems
with Vista from using older software and hardware not written
for Vista.

That's called forced upgrades, my friends. Otherwise known as rape.

Over Half of my software is not Vista approved or compliant, with
the laptop being the best you could buy 2 years ago.

My next computer may come with Vista, but not for long.
I will end up converting it to Linux with WINE to run the
needed Windows Apps - Like my large collection of
Adobe software. Everything else will be Open Source
apps like Open Office and the Mozilla software.

My laptop (which I'm writing on now) did come with Vista. Never used
it: I declined the EULA on the first boot. I haven't had the need to
install wine for over a year now. The only app that I would possibly
need is Photoshop. For the very little work that I do I've found the
Gimp to be enough, but I see it's limitations.

OPEN NOTE TO ADOBE: When you release PS for Linux I'll be the first in
line to buy a new license!!!

The only thing I like about Windows XP is the ease of
use of a USB device. Other than that, Windows 98se
had everything I needed. If not I could always run Win 2000 pro
which works just as well as XP and runs faster by far.

Have you used any kernels >=2.4? USB works just fine for me, and has
been for at least two years. USB camera, memory sticks, webcam,
printer, even my Axim x50v works just fine.

I love Open Office, and have installed it on every
computer I work on or sell. I keep MS Office around
for those people who call me up with questions that
that I need to walk them through.

How many towns, states, schools, "countries" are not
using Open Office as their standard suite? I lost count.
I hope the Open Source community reduces MS to an
OS company, not an OS/APPS company.

Actually, I'd rather see them as an app company. Windows 1.0 was a
great app. Windows Media Player is a great media manager. I actually
like Excel (but not the rest of Office). Paint and Notepad are two
wonderful, slim, reliable programs.
