I disconnected the cable and turned disabled my anti-virus program and still
was not able to download from the desktop. It keeps giving me and error
message.

It is possibly because you have an anti-virus program running.
Sometimes, the firewall can cause problems. To avoid these problems,
1) Physically disconnect the computer from the Internet (remove the
phone line or RJ45 cable, which ever you have).
2) Turn off your anti-virus and firewall programs.
3) Install OpenOffice.org from the desktop icon (double click it).
4) Turn on your anti-viurs and firewall programs. Make sure they are
running properly.
5) Reconnect to the Internet.
