I have OpenOffice 2.1 and Mac OS X 10.4.8.
Exporting to PDF and then printing from Adobe works great.

Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using and which version of OSX ?
Also can you "File" -> "Export to PDF" and print the resulting PDF ?
