Hi,

Looking at this list
<http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Framework/Article/Filter/ FilterList_OOo_2_1> it appears that OpenOffice.org will not open either of the file formats you mention, however it should be possible for you to save your files into a format readable by OpenOffice.org using the program in which they were created. Failing that try googling for Appleworks converter or Quark converter to see if there is some program you can download to convert the files.

If you have trouble downloading OpenOffice.org then you may want to consider buying a CD with it on. These tend to be very economical as the price usually only covers the cost of the CD and postage and will certainly save you the frustration of trying to download it!
See here: <http://distribution.openoffice.org/cdrom/index.html#cdrom>
Other suggestions I have seen on this list are getting a friend with broadband to download OpenOffice.org for you and then put it on a blank CD or a flash drive. Alternatively your local library may have a broadband connection which would allow you to get the download.

Hope this helps

Tom

PS I found some notes on converting AppleWorks files here <http:// www.washington.k12.ia.us/support/convertaw.htm> There are also many applications here that may help but the page is a little... messy. <http://www.macwindows.com/filetran.html>

Hi,
Have iMac OS X version 10.4.7 with 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Only have dial-up internet in this area. Tried to download Open Office suite. 7hrs, about 1/4 done got kicked off-line couldn't resume. No listing of what word processing software is compatible with Open Office. Are Quark or AppleWorks importable to Open Office?
                Thanks,
                DP
