That will work as long as you use a keyboard layout with 'dead keys',
like US International.

No, most keyboards will have those keys, but they may produce their
character directly, instead of remaining 'dead' until a second key is
pressed to combine it with.

If you choose the right keyboard layout, they will work in Linux as well.
Someone said something about Ctrl+Alt+[0 followed by numbers on the
numeric
keypad] to get things like ç etc, but on my keyboard it's Alt only, not
Ctrl. Is that also typical for Swedish keyboards? Alt+014000 (just to
mention one example) gives me °. Ctrl+Alt+014000 gives me nothing.
On my computer (Windows) it's Alt only as well.
