     This is probably one of the differences between Calc and Excel. 
However, to answer your original question, click the cell you want to 
edit once. This places the formula in the "formula bar" but not in 
the cell itself. Then click on the formula to edit it.
     The only way to edit a cell from directly within the cell is to 
double click the cell. Then the formula appears in both the cell and 
the "formula bar". (The English term for "formula bar" in 
OpenOffice.org is Input Line.)
