Don't know if this is what you want but:
Type and select X and then choose Format>Character>Position>Superscript
Then type and select Y and choose Format>Character>Position>Subscript
Play around with the relative positions of the X and Y - next to each other,
one above the other, Y one position to the right /left on the line below the
X, ...
